Northern Virginia has one of the largest cricket communities on the East Coast and a deep baseball and softball scene, and both run into the same wall around November: outdoor nets and fields go cold, and indoor lanes are scarce.
PSA Sports Club in Sterling runs three individual training cages built for cricket wickets, hitting and pitching, and speed and agility work. They are the most affordable serious training space in the building, and they stay open daily from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.
What the cages are set up for
Because the lanes are individual, a family can book one cage for a single player without paying for a full court - which is the difference between training twice a week and training twice a month.
- Cricket - batting against throwdowns or a bowling machine, plus bowling practice into the net at full run-up length.
- Baseball and softball - tee work, soft toss, front toss and live hitting, plus pitching and long-toss mechanics.
- Speed and agility - ladder, cone and acceleration work in a clean, dedicated lane.
- General fitness and customized private training.

How to use an hour well
An hour in a cage disappears fast if it is unstructured. The players who improve most tend to break the hour into blocks: ten minutes of movement prep, twenty-five minutes of technical repetition on one specific fault, fifteen minutes of live or randomized work, and ten minutes of review. One fault per session, high repetition, and video on a phone for feedback.
For cricket in particular, winter is the best time to change something mechanical - a grip, a trigger movement, a bowling wrist position - because there are no matches punishing the transition.
Who trains here
Cage users come from across the region - Sterling and Herndon within fifteen minutes, Ashburn and Chantilly around fifteen to twenty, Reston, South Riding and Brambleton around twenty, Leesburg and Aldie a little further. Club sides book recurring blocks for squad sessions; individual families book single lanes on weeknights.
If you are coordinating a full squad, book multiple cages in the same hour and rotate groups - three lanes running simultaneously handle a full team efficiently.
